002 - Thank You for Smoking
Share
We have a confession: we don't smoke. It's not for want of trying. One of us - aged just 12 - spent a few months smoking packs of Marlboro Reds on the streets of Moscow. While the other would keep a tin of Café Crème cigarillos handy throughout high school. For whatever reason, neither of us became smokers. This is not a flex; we have no idea why nicotine didn't light up our addiction pathways like a Christmas tree. We know that smoking is, unequivocally, bad. But life is often shitty and a smoke is a way to blow off some steam.

Our OD Green Ashtrays are all handmade - by yours truly - from Turkish white stoneware clay. Perhaps now is a good time for another confession: We started learning pottery only a year ago. It's fair to say we got a little obsessed and decided to make our own glazes. The OD Green glaze is made from materials all locally sourced and any neighbour who saw us in the mixing process would be forgiven for assuming we had gone full "Breaking Bad". OD Green is, of course, Olive Drab Green - the most commonly used shade for uniforms between WWII and circa 1990 for many militaries.

Making anything from scratch is a challenge; we threw, trimmed, and fired dozens of ashtrays until we got them as close to perfect as we could manage. Hence, there are only 12 OD Green Ashtrays available. Each one is slightly unique, just like you.
